MURDOCH UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

MURDOCH UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

IA Design were engaged by Murdoch University to design two new areas within the Geoffrey Bolton Library.

The brief for the first of the rooms, a 24/7 Learning Commons was to revitalise the space and provide a energetic and motivating study zone which consolidates, expands and improves the student learning experience as a priority, along with functional requirements commensurate with the library and various stakeholder requirements.

The brief for the second room, a Launchpad & Relocation of Work Integrated Learning and Careers Department was to bring staff together from other parts of the university to work around a new centralised hub; The Launchpad. The intent of the space is to integrate staff’s roles and services in one space for the primary benefit of students, but also academics, local business and entrepreneurs.  The Launchpad is a new concept for Murdoch University, IA Design are pioneering a new way of working together in a flexible, exciting and inviting way within an area of approximately 400m².  This is a centre of activity and feels professional yet inviting to a full demographic range.  This is everyone’s space.  It has a degree of flexibility in-built to allow various uses including networking events, displays and seminars.
