In collaboration with Built., the IA Design team designed and constructed the Administrative Appeals Tribunals (AAT) in Sydney. A brand new 9,000m2 space across 9 floors, that houses four tribunals, and consists of both public spaces and working environments.

This new space has transformed the way the AAT operates, with four tribunals now amalgamated in a central multi-functional location. The IA Design team worked closely with key internal stakeholders to ensure the values of the AAT were echoed throughout the space – from the public reception areas through to the specialized hearing rooms and employee workplace. This was enabled through ongoing communication with the AAT regarding the change management process.

A central objective of this project was to increase the connectivity and transparency of the space, which was successfully achieve by an internal staircase that links two public floors and acts as core architectural feature.

The outcome is an extraordinary environment that has a sophisticated and organic design form, and proudly features Australian designed and made products.
